GIANT at The Public Theater
by Press on May.11, 2011, under News
Eddie Marrero has been cast in the role of “Polo” in the Broadway Theater Workshop Production of GIANT, a new musical based on the 1952 book of the same name by Pulitzer Prize Winning Author Edna Ferber. Music and Lyrics by Tony Nominee Michael John LaChiusa (Marie Christine, The Wild Party), Book by Sybille Pearson (Baby), and Directed by Michael Greif, Tony Nominee (Rent, Grey Gardens, Next To Normal).
Expansive, passionate, and romantic, this sweeping new musical captures the essence of Texas on an astonishing scale. Set in 1922, GIANT tells the story of a Texas rancher, his Virginia born wife, and three generations of land rich Texans in a saga of power and love, cattle barons and oil tycoons. The musical closely follows the novel and rejects many of the plot changes that were made for the classic 1956 film of the same name that starred Rock Hudson, James Dean, and Elizabeth Taylor highlighting themes of rejection, bigotry, and racism toward Mexican American workers. The music displays various musical styles from Mexican folk, to Country, to Rock “n” Roll, to Jazz and Mariachi. GIANT is a co-production of the acclaimed Public Theater in New York City and the Dallas Theater Center in Dallas, Texas. More news to follow.

The Holocaust Kid

(NEW YORK, NY) In what critics are describing as a tour de force performance, Eddie Marrero must be feeling pretty wonderful right now following his brilliant and amazing work in Sonia Pilcer’s new play “The Holocaust Kid” which had its premiere last night at The Marjorie S. Dean Little Theater in NYC. Making the evening all the more amazing was the fact that Marrero was literally cast in the role just 24 hours earlier, replacing an actor who backed out at the last minute. In what he described as “one of most mind challenging and adrenalin rushing experiences an actor can have”, he stepped onto the stage following a mere 6 hours of intense rehearsal, proving yet again this actor’s discipline, skill, and talent.
